What do you do at Flyhomes? Here at Flyhomes, I am a User Experience designer, working on the usability and visual design of our internal tools. I love my job! Not only am I a member of our incredible tech team, but my role lets me interface with pretty much all of our teams.
What did you do before joining Flyhomes? I’ve mostly worked at startups throughout the course of my career in tech. I also teach UX at UCLA in my spare time. I love complex problems and real estate is a space where I can help create transparency and empower our team with the tools to help our customers.
What’s something unexpected that you’ve learned on the job? I’m blown away by the research our team can perform on a property or neighborhood. To have so many great people and insight behind your real estate transaction is incredible.
What’s your #1 tip for homebuyers? If you are looking at an older home (or even regardless), be thorough with inspections. You want to know what you’re getting when you buy. Between that and looking at permits, I felt like I got to know our house’s history.
How do you like to spend time when you’re not working? Making music with my fiance Gregory with their electronic project Nailpolishh. They are very talented and I do what I can. We played in a band before the pandemic and making music is a great way to focus creative energy.
What’s something about you that surprises people? I speak German and at one point, almost fluently. I learned quite a bit of Spanish from my family, but when I was 16, I traveled to Germany and I wanted to study it. I studied abroad in the Black Forest.
Pets, plants, or both? What makes you happy at home? Both! At home, we have three cats: Derby, Alaska Thunderpaws, and Billie Mercury. Billie is our most recent addition. We found him wandering in a park around Christmas and when no owner surfaced, we decided he was too sweet and loveable to let go. On the plant front, our collection is intense! We have about 100 plants outside and maybe a dozen inside. I’m pretty obsessed with native California plants and we recently planted a coast live oak in our front yard.’
What neighborhood do you live in? Where else have you lived?
We live in Northeast Los Angeles in a very quiet hillside community called Rose Hills. I was born in Los Angeles, but I grew up in Whittier, CA. I’ve lived in Long Beach, Altadena, Echo Park, Silver Lake, but I’m proud to call Northeast Los Angeles home. The sheer amount of nature, wildlife, and excellent Mexican food here is mind-blowing.
What’s your favorite place in Los Angeles? Spill a best-kept neighborhood secret spot (where do the locals go?)
Chanos across from Lincoln Park is some of the best Mexican food you can find. I recommend everything. There are a lot of great new additions in the area too like The Heights where you can pick up amazing Italian food, beer, and wine.
What do you love most about your home?
That our home was well-loved and is about to turn 100-years-old. I love thinking about the history here.
Let’s talk about buying a home!
