Meet Flyhomie Jay!

What do you do at Flyhomes? I’m a senior Product Designer for Flyhomes. I design Flyhomes’ apps, websites, and occasionally promotional material.

What did you do before joining Flyhomes? After finishing my degree in Information & Computer Science, I had a short career as a software developer before jumping into user experience and product design full-time. Previous to joining Flyhomes, I worked at AT&T designing internal enterprise tools.

What’s something unexpected that you’ve learned on the job? Coming to Flyhomes, I knew that real estate agents have a lot on their plates, but wow! I had no idea just how much behind-the-scenes work is involved in crafting and negotiating offers through to closing on a house and getting the keys. I have so much respect for how hard the whole team at Flyhomes works on behalf of our clients. Trust your advisor and the team – they want you to succeed as much as you do!

What’s your #1 tip for homebuyers? Home buying isn’t just about the house. Spend time thinking about what’s most important to you when it comes to where you live. How much driving or walking do you like to do? Is noise on your mind? Do you have hobbies or shopping you want to be close to? For perspective, it can help to make a list of things you do and don’t like about your current and past homes.

How do you like to spend time when you’re not working? In my personal time, I make art both digitally and traditionally – visit me at @jaystonekingart! Since one creative hobby was apparently not enough, I’m also working on a fantasy novel. Outside of those, I enjoy cooking, video games, and getting together for tabletop role playing games with friends.

What’s something about you that surprises people? I’m not into fortune-telling, but I collect beautiful decks of cards – especially tarot and oracle cards. My personal collection has over 30 different sets right now.

Pets, plants, or both? What makes you happy at home? Both! I adore my two cats and my partner’s two dogs. Over the past few months, I’ve been whittling down my oversized succulent collection at home.

What neighborhood do you live in? I live in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood – I walk everywhere and love being so close to such a great selection of shops and restaurants.

Where else have you lived? I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and detoured through Orange County, CA for college before making my way up to Seattle for want of less sun. Before staking my claim in Ballard, I lived in Queen Anne and Beacon Hill.

What’s your favorite place in Seattle? My favorite places in the city are actually some of the residential streets in Queen Anne, especially along Highland Drive. There’s a special kind of magic in going on a run past the beautiful homes and discovering a secret stairwell or a perfect little glimpse of the Space Needle in a hidden nook.

Spill a best-kept neighborhood secret spot (where do the locals go?) I have a ton of local favorites but I have to shout out to my favorite cafe in the city for their amazing tea selection and drinks – Miro Tea. There’s a great selection of boutiques in Ballard; I regularly hit up Venue, Lucca, and Monster for gifts and tchotchkes to send to friends. When it comes to food, I’m particularly fond of the smoked sausages at Boars Nest BBQ and the brisket at Bitterroot BBQ.

What do you love most about your home? This one is tough. I live in a beautiful home designed by a local architect – years later, I still catch myself admiring it when I’m coming up to the front door. It’s always nice to cozy up by the gorgeous windows on rainy days.

Meet more Flyhomies.
