Pets are people, too! We’re pretty sure that’s true and we’re absolutely certain pet friendliness is a big deal to homebuyers with four-legged family members.
WalletHub compared 25 metrics in the 100 biggest US cities to discover which are most (and least) pet friendly.
The top 5 pet-friendly cities overall are:
- Tampa, FL
- Austin, TX
- Las Vegas, NV
- Orlando, FL
- Seattle, WA
In addition to coming in fifth overall, the Flyhomes HQ city of Seattle also tied for first in the category of most dog-friendly restaurants per capita. It also landed in the top 10 for health pet and wellness, and outdoor pet friendliness.
California seems to be the best state to shop for a pet, with San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego all tied for first for most pet businesses per capita. (They also tied with New York and Miami.) San Diego also came in first in the pet health and wellness ranking and tied for first on most dog-friendly restaurants per capita.
On the flip side, California is the most expensive place to get dog insurance as well. San Diego, Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Francisco are in the top five for highest dog insurance premium (joined by New York).
The lowest-ranking cities overall are:
- Fresno, CA
- San Bernardino, CA
- Santa Ana, CA
- Honolulu, Hi
- Bakersfield, CA
